I SUPPORT A LIVABLE, ACCESSIBLE, AND AFFORDABLE LEXINGTON

  • Improving open spaces to create usable and intentional built environments
  • Increasing housing diversity and choice for homeowners and renters
  • Designing places for people rather than cars

We, the undersigned, support passage of the following Zoning Ordinance Text Amendments: Accessory Dwelling Units, Open Space, and Parking Reform. We call on the Lexington-Fayette County Urban County Council and Mayor Linda Gorton to support passage of the proposed Zoning Ordinance Text Amendments.

As we work to meet the growing housing needs of our community while simultaneously building a more livable city, the Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs), Open Space, and Parking Reform ZOTAs are three changes that can make a big impact on community members.

Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) ZOTA

  • AKA backyard cottages, in-law suite; sometimes an addition of a home unit to an existing house either on the side, in the basement, or in the attic
  • Creates more diverse and affordable housing options for all near existing infrastructure, services, jobs, and amenities
  • Provides housing opportunities so our aging population can remain close to existing friends and family

Open Space ZOTA

  • Requires usable, well-designed, and quality open spaces as opposed to current requirements that often encourage wasted space
  • Creates accessible greenspaces and outdoor community gathering places
  • Enhances overall quality of life for all through environmental, social, and economic benefits

Parking Reform ZOTA

  • Encourages a safer, walkable, and more sustainable Lexington.
  • Allows for redevelopment of underutilized, often empty, parking lots.
  • Makes parking requirements specific to each building or developmentā€™s needs rather than blanket requirements that often result in unnecessary parking spaces.

I support passing the following Zoning Ordinance Text Amendments:
